Many people go into marriage without understanding what it is all about. Marriage is for mature adults who are willing to give up their freedom, some personal tendencies and individualism for the joy, happiness and peace of another. Do not be scared; it is not bondage. It is just a partnership, a divine and indissoluble one. Every genuine partnership entails some sacrifice if it must work. Yes, partnership abhors selfishness, greed and individualism.
Marriage is a divine conjugal unity of two people for the purpose of harnessing each other's strength and covering and/or helping each other's failures and faults. It is not the coming together of angels - faultless individuals, or that of an angel and a human being. Everybody has fault, so in marriage no partner should play the angel. What do I mean? I mean that YOU that have been complaining about your partner all the time have a fault also. You may even be worse than your partner you have been complaining of. Let me tell you one of your faults right away. The fact that you are always complaining of another person is a BIG FAULT. Complaining is not a virtue. It is a sign of weakness of character, of intellectual shallowness, of resentment and of despondency. It is simply an acceptance defeat.
What then will I do? You ask me. Have you ever been in partnership business before? I ask you. Did you ever take the profit alone? Did you ever take the credit for the success of the business alone? Do you always quarrel and complain about your partner?
I assure you the partnership wouldn't have lasted for a day if you did any of these things. Rather, what did you do? Give and take, I am sure. When there is any matter or problem that could affect the smooth running of the business, all of you sat down and talked it over, am I right? When necessary you gave commendation, and when necessary you corrected. And you kept doing all these until a very good working partnership was achieved. That is what you need in your marriage.
